Vacationer - Having It All
My favorite “summer record” for 2012. I’m so happy for Kenny (ex-Starting Line). He’s really done something special here. Great songwriting, great production, and super catchy hooks without being run-of-the-mill. This track is dangerously infectious.
Black Clouds - Pantheons *Song is currently not on Spotify
Promising post-rock from three ex-members of Solar Powered Sun Destroyer (who I did a remix/reinterpretation for a while back) that brings to mind Russian Circles, Sigur Ros, and Isis. Listen here.
Ancient Shores - Reaper
I found out about this after posting a song from Fight Amp on my blog, and getting an email about these guys. It’s really aggressive and heavy angular punk rock in the vein of Botch, Every Time I Die, The Minor Times, et al.
Torche - Kicking
I’ve been a Torche fan for years, and I can’t stop listening to their new record, Harmonicraft. This is my favorite track (mostly because of how epic the chorus is), and a perfect example of Torche’s absolute mastery of making really catchy music that is brutally heavy. This must be an unbelievably fun band to play in.
Kowloon Walled City - The Busker *Song is currently not on Spotify
My good friend, Ian (who I run the ProductiveOuts twitter, blog, and podcast with) plays bass in this band. They are ridiculously heavy and awesome, and if you don’t listen to them and love them, we probably won’t get along.
Refused - Deadly Rhythm
I got to see this performed live at Groezrock in Belgium last weekend, and I seriously almost pooped in my pants. I know that saying is overused and tired, but I had weird meat in catering, beer, and coffee in my stomach, and watching David Sandström play this song on drums got me so excited that I almost had a crisis in the rear pantal area.
